In a compassionate effort to support the health and recovery of tuberculosis (TB) patients, Carmel Jyothi Public Charitable Trust distributed nutritional food kits to 27 TB patients in Aland Taluk, Kalaburagi District.
The program was inaugurated in a symbolic and eco-friendly manner by Dr. Sushil Kumar, Taluk Health Officer, who watered a plant to mark the occasion. In his address, Dr. Kumar stated that TB is a completely curable disease if patients adhere to the prescribed six-month medication regimen. He stressed that proper nutrition, along with medication, significantly aids in faster recovery. While the government provides free medicines, he praised the Trust’s initiative of offering daily nutritional support, which includes an egg, lentils, and two containers of protein supplements to each patient.
Expressing his appreciation on behalf of the health department, Dr. Kumar thanked Carmel Jyothi Trust for its timely and compassionate support to the community.
Fr. William Miranda, Secretary of the Trust, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to making Aland Taluk TB-free. He urged patients to actively cooperate in the treatment process and advised them to take preventive steps such as avoiding public spitting, wearing masks, and practicing hygiene to stop the spread of the infection.
The event was also graced by Dr. Usman Sultan, Dr. Vishal Sajjan (Taluk TB Control Officer), Mrs. Vijayalakshmi (Taluk Health Education Officer), Mr. Narasappa, and theology students from Carmel Hill, Mangalore: Loy Crasta, Alwin D’Souza, Elston Montero, Stin George, Hilary Rodrigues, Wilson Rodrigues, Rixon Moras, and Innocent Minj.
This initiative reflects Carmel Jyothi Trust’s ongoing mission to combine healthcare, dignity, and compassion for the betterment of vulnerable populations.
