In a heartfelt gesture of service and compassion, Carmel Jyothi Public Charitable Trust, Kadaganchi unit, distributed free spectacles to 72 inmates of the Central Jail in Kalaburagi on 12th May 2025.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Anita, Chief Superintendent of the Central Jail, who highlighted the significance of eye care, especially as eyesight often deteriorates with age. She recalled that an eye screening camp was organized last month by the Trust, during which 172 prisoners were provided spectacles at no cost. With today’s distribution to the remaining 72 inmates, the Trust has extended its outreach to all those in need, showing a deep sense of humanitarian commitment.
Dr. Anita lauded the efforts of Carmel Jyothi Trust, recognizing its ongoing service to the underprivileged and marginalized sections of society. She commended the Trust’s dedication to social welfare, which has earned it goodwill and respect from the public. Also present at the program were Fr. William Miranda, Secretary of the Trust; Mr. Nagaraj; members of the jail staff; and a team of theology students from Carmel Hill, Mangalore: Loy Crasta, Alwin D’Souza, Elston Montero, Stin George, Hilary Rodrigues, Wilson Rodrigues, Rixon Moras, and Innocent Minj. This initiative stands as a testament to the Trust’s commitment to bringing light and dignity to those behind bars, reminding us that care and compassion must reach all, even the forgotten.
